Ahipara Health and Resource Trust was the vision of
Sharon Toi. The lack of services in this rural area and
districts surrounding Ahipara, was the motivation that
saw Sharon set about realising her dream.
In June 1996, the dream became a reality and "The
Ahipara Health and Resource Centre" was established
Sharon's uncle, Kaumatua Simon Snowden (now deceased)
gifted our Centre with the name NGA HAUORA O
WHANGATAUATIA. meaning: The (many) mountain of health:
Unfortunately, Sharon succumbed to cancer in December
1997. Her legacy to her people and the community
continues to flourish, with new and better health
services.
